The Classic and the Cool concert at Siam Society

A 14-year-old harp sensation will team up with older saxophone and violin masters for “The Classic and the Cool” concert. It will take place at Siam Society on July 13 at 8pm.

Presented by Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre, the concert will be performed by the Tamnak Prathom Harp Ensemble and two guest artists – violinist Thaweewet “Paye” Srinarong of the Vietrio fame, and saxophonist Nattapon “Pey” Fuangaugsorn.

The programme will feature music by Dave Brubeck, George Gershwin and Astor Piazzolla, as well as music from the classic harp repertoire. It will conclude with a medley from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story by Jakez Francois.

Presenting the classic side of the concert will be a young talent from Singapore, Lee Yun Chai. He will be playing Marcel Grandjany’s Rhapsodie, Pearl Chertok’s Ten Past Midnight and Manuel de Falla’s La Vida Breve.

The 14-year-old harpist is one of the star students from Rave Harpers, Singapore’s leading harp orchestra. He has appeared in many concerts and international competitions and is the first young harp student from this region to have won a scholarship in Harp Studies at the Juilliard’s Junior Music School.

Tickets cost 500 baht and are available at Siam Society (tel 02-661-6470/1) and Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre (tel 02-261-4777/8).
